Synopsis
There are about 30 b-boys in Tanzania. Johnson Sanga is one of them. By day, he teaches breaking at a school, and in the afternoons, he practices or battles with his crew. He has two dreams: to train the next generation of breakers and to become the world's best b-boy at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Yoon Hyuk, a South Korean drummer and a big fan of breaking, accidentally brought the breaking boom to Tanzania. Since then, he has traveled to Tanzania every year to support breakers there in various ways. His next goal is to get Johnson to represent Tanzania at the Olympics, but Tanzania is not interested in breaking as an Olympic sport. Is this a real possibility?
Director's Note
All breakers are losers. Because no breaker can win every battle. Breaking itself was born out of the culture of the miners, so they live and breathe defeat and failure. Tanzania, in particular, is still a breaking backwater. There's no organized system, let alone an environment where they can make a living as a full-time breaker. But Johnson and other breakers are pleasant. Win or lose, they dance breaking and feel free and alive. This is a film about delightful losers. When Abba sings "The winner takes it all," Johnson sings "Hakuna Matata(no problem)". Will Johnson still be singing Hakuna Matata at the end of this film?
I've been following my heart, going with the flow, and before I know it, I'm making movies. Maybe I should have planned my life a little more. | As a food and nutrition major, I've been interested in food since I was a kid. It was my junior year of college when I was introduced to video while volunteering. Then everything changed. | ||
