With trembling breaths, Kyeong-in, a woman with developmental disability, cheerfully recounts her life journey after leaving the institution.
▪ Synopsis
After leaving the institution, Kyeong-In lives joyfully while raising her voice to acknowledge the scars left on her. She often feels discouraged by the criticism that "the writings aren't truly her own", but she still finds joy in working with her colleagues. However, the government cut down jobs for people with disabilities, and people who are against the deinstitutionalization start to speak up louder. In the fear of going back to life without autonomy, Kyeong-In starts breathing in heavily.
▪ Biography
DIRECTOR : YEO Inseo | PRODUCER : KIM Jieun |
As a sibling of a person with a disability, I listen closely to the creaks of our bodies reshaping the world in profound ways. My first documentary Home (2021) explores the desires for home shared by people with disabilities and their families. Recently, I co-directed What Bonds Us (2023), weaving together the stories of queer feminists in South Korea. My films have been screened at several human rights film festivals and have received awards at the Seoul Disability Rights Film Festival. | I studied documentary filmmaking in Seoul, South Korea, and Boston, USA. My work focuses on exploring the connections between documentary filmmaking and other art forms, including performance, music, and graphic design. My first producing project, Her Breath, is currently in production with support from the Korean Film Council and the DMZ Intl. Documentary Film Festival. |
