▪ Logline
In a village submerged deep underwater, there are names who killed, died, and survived during the Korean War. While taking photographs of my granny, the latent images of the names unfolded before me.
▪ Synopsis
My granny’s parents and family were killed by neighbors during the Korean War.
Caught between accusations of being right-wing and left-wing, the village turned into a battleground where people killed each other and more than 100 people died.
After the war, even the village, where the family of killers lived next doors still, was submerged by the Jangseong Dam and disappeared. I meet scattered names with a film camera.

I majored in Biology in university and am currently in the documentary filmmaking master's program at the Korea National University of Arts. I directed a short documentary Namu and am currently working on another short documentary about the redevelopment areas of Seoul, Korea. Names under the Water is my first feature-length documentary. I’m interested in the connection among unrecorded history, film photography, and documentary film. | I am majoring in narrative filmmaking at Seoul Institute of the Arts and have worked on two short narrative films. This documentary is my first documentary project. I am deeply interested in the themes of death and loss, and through this project, I aim to explore these emotional depths. My goal is to create a meaningful connection between the audience and the experiences within the documentary, using personal stories tied to historical events. |
