Synopsis
This film focuses on a small legal firm at a district court in Korea, where people suffering under the weight of debt constantly come and go whether because they must collect what they are owed or repay what they cannot afford. Eight years ago, I became an assistant to help pay off my father's debt. Through his story and those of his clients, the film looks into what causes suffering from debt and how it might be overcome.
Director's Statement
A judicial clerk who helps others apply for bankruptcy and rehabilitation is himself in urgent need of financial recovery. His son, working as his assistant, does struggles alongside him. Their story reflects the reality of many people who are trapped in debt and the families who suffer with them. Hope this work becomes the first step toward recovery for those who carry the heavy burden of debt both externally and internally.
Director KIM Myunwoo
Born in 1995 in Chungcheongbuk-do. Raised in a Buddhist temple. Having worked as an assistant at a legal firm for 8 years now.
Producer JIN Hyundo
Born in 1994, graduated from the Department of Media and Communication at Gachon University.
Directed the short film Comfort (2020) and produced several other short films.
Currently serving as the executive producer of the independent feature-length documentary Karma.
Producer SEO Youngsun
Youngsun participated in a few short films made at the University. She took an feature filmmaking class at HANKYOREH Education, staring her career as a director. She worked at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival. Currently, she is serving as co-producer of the documentary feature Karma.
