Synopsis
Born in 1935, Kim Yun Shin is a first-generation Korean female sculptor who rose from the ruins of war. Mid-life, she moved to Argentina, carving massive South American trees with a chainsaw to forge her unique artistic language. Accompanied by her pupil Kim Ran of 40 years, she captivated the Venice Biennale at age 89. Now in her nineties, she still enters her studio daily. The film follows an artist who always lives in the present, relentlessly renewing her life.
Director's Statement
"If I don't cut, I can't see what's next." For Kim Yun-shin, cutting is not destruction but creation. Through war and migration, she cut away what came before to build a new life. This film is not a record of a master's success story. Rather, it captures the body of a human being still laboring even in her nineties and the way of life of someone moving endlessly toward what comes next. It witnesses the moment where war and diaspora, womanhood and labor, aging and creation converge within a single soul.
