Synopsis

Asia's transnational crime only looks disconnected. In Myanmar, scam compounds defraud victims worldwide, and some of them run on software written by North Korean developers. The money extorted from these victims flows on to Korea's new generation of gangs, young crews who are linked in turn to criminal organizations in China. One chain, four countries. Can it be broken?

Director's Statement

I have reported from Cambodia's scam compounds and its trafficking routes, and from the operations that brought down drug kingpins in Thailand and Korea. On the ground, one thing became clear: no one sees the whole shape of it — not the victims, not even the investigators working a single case. People need to know. In an age when daily life is digital and human ties are global, crime will not stop crossing borders. But what we know is what we can avoid, and what the public demands is what gets these organizations caught.
