Synopsis
In 2024, South Korea passes the Special Act to End Dog Meat Consumption, with a three-year grace period. A journey begins to trace the fate of the 500,000 dogs left behind. These dogs have nowhere to go. Caught in a debate over slaughter versus euthanasia, they are simply dying. The journey leads to encounters with dog meat farmers and animal rights activists and confronts a distorted pet industry system. After four years, the dogs' gaze finally turns to the camera.
Director's Statement
Even after the Special Act to End Dog Meat Consumption passed, the existence of the dogs left behind remains a question. Facing 500,000 dogs abandoned with no one taking responsibility, beings unable to protect themselves, we come to experience human selfishness, an absurd system, and Korean society's violent way of resolving conflict. To live together peacefully beyond hatred and discrimination, we decide to tell a story about what it means to be human.
Director KIM Yoojin
Kim Yoojin is a Korean actor and director. She directed Hello Vivian and Hometown. And God Created Man. is her first feature-length documentary.
