Synopsis
Caught between two worlds, Natalja, a woman of Norwegian-Russian descent long distanced from her homeland, is shattered by the 2022 war. Returning to Russia, she journeys across a fractured land, meeting soldiers, children, and villagers carrying invisible wounds of fear, violence, and grief. Interwoven with animation, her inner child navigates memory, identity, and loss as she searches for meaning amid devastation. Haunted by her grandmother’s compassion, Natalja seeks understanding in a society shaped by trauma, propaganda, and division. THIS TOO SHALL CHANGE is a meditative journey through war, humanity, and fragile hope.
Director's Statement
Can you help me find the way out? The call comes from the heart of the Russian people - to whom I also belong. Through me they whisper for help, searching for a way out of this madness.
The 2022 war shattered my distance from my Russian roots and awakened a pain I could no longer ignore. I returned to Russia with fear and uncertainty, searching for humanity, peace, and my grandmother Russia. Through conversations with people carrying fear, pain, and trauma, I discovered a human experience beyond politics and borders. This film is a search for compassion and hope.
