Synopsis
I, the director and the main character, discover a home videotape while organizing a house. A time of harmony that is completely opposed to the present.
Wouldn't I be a little different now if I had lived like that with them on the screen? My mother abruptly left the house when I was 11 years old. I couldn't love her after that.
And I thought I was a bad person for being unable to love her. I go to Jeonju to show mom a home video. She works as a researcher there.
Mom looks at the cell through a microscopic lens, while I look into her with a camera lens next to her. I bring up the question that we have avoided so far.
We're attempting to match each other. What kind of relationship can we have?
Director's Note
I've spent my entire life pondering my childhood. That is because of my mother. This work begins with a childhood event that has had a long-lasting impact on me.
My mother left me when I was eleven years old. My mother and I have lost contact, and no one in the family explained what was going on. Since then, anxiety, confusion, and deep sadness settled somewhere in my mind. The title 'Microscopic World' means a world that can only be seen through a microscope.
I'd like to observe the gap between mother and me and the world that neither knows as if I were enlarging cells under a microscope and staring.
At the end of this film, I hope to redefine my relationship with my mother and put an end to this confusing feeling I have been experiencing.
