Synopsis
We, people from outside of Seoul, have our own fanciful dreams about Seoul. Born and raised in Gwangju for 30 years, countless people’s quotes about Seoul passed by me. It still keeps me inflating my fanciful Seoul. When I was in high school, it was “There’s no point in going to college unless you’re in Seoul.” When I was in the theatre, it was my own words. “And now I’m sick and tired of the Gwangju theatre!” My fanciful Seoul has been inflated and has subsided repeatedly. But boom! finally, it explodes. I gotta go now! To Seoul where my friends were taken away! Hold on, let me visit my fanciful Seoul once before leaving. I build a fanciful train to Seoul on the theatre stage and bring people together. Gather around! For those who feel like ‘I-ALSO-NEED-TO-MOVE-TO-SEOUL’! Let’s go on a farewell trip from Gwangju! At that moment, my phone rang. It was a call from a traitor friend of mine who already moved to Seoul. “I don’t think I belong here.” Then where should I go? Now the journey to fanciful Seoul begins with the lingering feelings of people who are stuck in Gwangju and Seoul.
Director's Note
"Everyone moved to Seoul except me!" According to the statistics announced by the local government of Gwangju in 2021, the number of 38,000 youth in Gwangju leave for Seoul each year. What if I'm the only one LEFT here? Every time I'm worried about it, a fanciful life in Seoul, comes to mind. Come to think of it, whenever I imagined a better future, why did I come up with Seoul? But why did I always choose to live in Gwangju while dreaming of fanciful Seoul? Oh, how did I come to love and love Gwangju so badly! By the time I finish this film, can I stop blaming myself for not being born in Seoul? I hope this film could be another greeting to us in the past, the present, and the future, which are still weighing in Seoul and outer Seoul.
