Amidst COVID-19, I lost my mother and while sorting her belongings, I found a note that hints at the secret of my birth.
Synopsis
After losing my mother, I discovered an adoption note while sorting through her belongings. I realized I am adopted and have four siblings through Holt Children's Services. Amidst the chaos, I struggled to accept my adoptee identity and embrace my queer identity. With my non-binary partner, I found a newfound sense of love, building a family that feels authentically ours.
Director's Statement
In this film, I aim to explore the process of seeking my biological parents through a feminist lens and uncover the gendered dynamics of adoption. I intend to illuminate the backdrop of a patriarchal society with its ironic complexities. Meanwhile, the film portrays my love for the mother who gave me my true first name, "Minji." Inheriting her greatest legacy, "love," I aim to contemplate how to carry forward this love in my life as an adoptee and queer person.
I am an independent film director, non-fiction writer, and archive researcher. I strive to address societal issues from marginalized perspectives and plan collaborations with artists while exploring diverse aspects of our surroundings. | ||
