Logline
The bark beetles appearing in the Ardennes Forest are killing the spruce trees at a terrifying rate, and the Nélisse family, who work in the forest transporting timber, continue their work without taking any measures to address the situation.
Synopsis
Raymond, who managed the horses for timber transporter Michael and helped his son, marked diseased spruce trees every day in an effort to slow the spread of pests. The system for regulating logging due to the spread of bark beetles collapsed, and the forest was rapidly disappearing. Although Michael felt a sense of crisis, he continued to train young horses and did not leave the forest. Meanwhile, Raymond began planting beech trees in the heavily logged areas of the forest.
Director's Statement
Fourteen years ago, I directed a broadcast documentary about a Belgian father and son who worked as timber transporters. Last year, I met them again. Along with the emotional reunion, I heard some shocking news: the Ardennes Forest is disappearing due to global warming. I decided to turn the crisis they faced into a film. How will the Nélisse family endure this difficult time? Furthermore, what will we do?
